Donna took her first watercolor class in 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia. She is inspired by Winslow Homer, Helen Frankenthaler, Richard Diebenkorn and the French Impressionists. Her journey in watercolor includes studying with Mary Crutchfield, Chuck McLachlan, Eric Weigart, Mary Ellen Golden and Sterling Edwards, among others.

She taught adult’s and children’s art classes in Greenville, North Carolina, privately and through programs at Greenville Recreation and Parks Department and Pitt Community College. She with two other artists started the Famous Artists Summer Camp, exposing children to art of the masters through painting/drawing, ceramics and sculpture. These camps continue each summer.
Donna was a founding member of the Greenville Brushstrokes, a group of artists that come together to share information and critique each other’s work. This group holds two major shows each year. Greenville Brushstrokes is also a venue for local artists to share their work with the community. The group is a model for other community art associations.
She has been juried into art shows, has judged art shows and has paintings in various collections in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
