Martha Raines
A native of Black Mountain, NC, Martha is a self-taught artist who enjoys painting in both oil and watercolor. She finds her inspiration from the beauty of her surroundings in Western North Carolina. Martha paints various subjects, but always returns to landscapes - particularly autumn scenes in the mountains of WNC.
“My work would be described as realist by most people; however, I occasionally venture over into the impressionistic realm – always finding a new style or medium intriguing. Attempting to capture on paper or canvas the actual mood or feeling of a location is the ultimate challenge. Being able to vaguely reach that feeling is what painting is all about to me.”
Martha is an active member of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League. She has won several awards in local competitions.
